Gibson commemorates Lennon’s birthday the way he would have wanted

John Lennon’s birthday is coming up on October 9the legendary singer, songwriter, and guitarist would have been 70 this year. In commemoration of the event, and at the request of Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono, Gibson is taking a trip back in time and recreating the singer’s iconic first guitar. The J-160E (which Lennon couldn’t afford on his own, co-signing with manager Brian Epstein) will be reproduced in all its glory in three different variations.There’s the original classic model (500 units, 4,728), the white “Imagine” model (70 units, 10,748), and the “Museum” model (70 units, 15,048) which features recreations of Lennon’s doodles of himself and Ono. All models feature P-90 pickups, Lennon’s signature on the headstock, and his engraved birth date over the 12th fret. For many eager collectors, these will be sought-after items with a lot of resale value in years to come.
