How To Properly Clean Your Trombone

Part of being an excellent musician is the task of properly maintaining and cleaning your instrument. It is important to know how to properly clean your trombone to keep it in top shape.

To begin, fill a tub with warm water. It is important that the water only be warm, and not actually hot. Place about a half cup of any mild dish liquid in the water. Place the parts of the trombone in the water, making sure that they are completely covered. Be sure to take the horn completely apart, including removing the inner slide. When all of this is done, allow the parts to soak for approximately thirty minutes.

Use a small brush to clean the mouthpiece. Be sure to rinse any soap off of it well, and then set it aside to dry. A soft brush can be used to scrub the remaining parts. As each one is clean, lay them on a soft towel. Allow everything to dry completely before beginning to reassemble your trombone. When reassembling, be sure to apply grease to the tuning slide, and slide cream to the inner slide. Be sure these parts are moving smoothly before you lock them into place.

As a final touch, polish your trombone to a shiny finish with a soft cloth, and then you are set to go.
